Mit Un naranja que se oscurece zeigt die FILIALE die erste Einzelausstellung von Manuel M. Romero außerhalb Spaniens. Ein sich verdunkelndes Orange veranschaulicht auf poetische Weise den Moment in seiner Arbeit, in der er zum ersten Mal Farbe in seinen künstlerischen Prozess miteinbezieht und damit eine Art Übergang beschreibt. Die Abwandlung von Schwarz führt unter Beimischung anderer Farben zu Braun. Die Annäherung an und Verwendung von Farben geschieht bei Manuel M. Romero rein erfahrungsorientiert und bedeutet gleichzeitig ein prozesshaftes Vorgehen, in welchem sich Farben und Formen im Laufe der malerischen Entstehung stark verändern.
So gestalten sich die Kompositionen auf der Bildfläche aus formalen Elementen, die sich aus dem Atelierboden des Künstlers speisen. Als eine Art Vorstudie dient die lose Ansammlung verschiedenster Blätter im Sinne einer chance operation als Grundlage seiner kompositorischen Überlegungen. Das reduzierte Farb- und Formenvokabular aus den Blättern wie Linien, Kreise, Kleckse und Farbflächen, wird auf den Malgrund übertragen, wobei die Platzierung der kompositorischen Elemente sich im Malprozess permanent verändert und auf der Bildfläche bzw. mehreren Bildflächen rotiert. Hier wird abgetragen und -gekratzt, dort übermalt und überspachtelt, bis die Elemente ihre finale Position erreicht haben. Die Spuren der vorangegangenen Kompositionen bezeugen nicht nur ihre eigene Existenz, sondern auch das enorm prozesshafte Vorgehen von Manuel M. Romero. Auch wenn die Bilder in der Betrachtung zunächst auf eine grobe Machart hinweisen, entstehen sie äußert sensibel. So verlangen sie einen Moment, der die Wahrnehmung der Farbschichten im Prozess verändert. Er macht deutlich, wie die Oberflächen auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise das Licht brechen, reflektiert den malerischen Prozess und zeigt die äußerst poetische malerische Haltung von Manuel M. Romero.
Manuel M. Romero, geboren 1993 in Sevilla, hat 2017 sein Fine Art Studium an der Universität Sevilla abgeschlossen.

In the shape of Un naranja que se oscurece, FILIALE is hosting the first solo exhibition by Manuel M. Romero outside Spain. A darkening orange visualizes in poetic manner the moment in his work when he for the very first time includes color in his artistic process, and it thus denotes a kind of transition. The modification of black leads through the admixture of other colors to brown. Manuel M. Romero slowly approaches and uses colors in a solely experiential manner, and at the same time this implies a process-based method in which colors and shapes change strongly in the course of their painterly evolution.
The compositions on the pictorial surface are thus made up of formal elements that are assembled on the floor of the artist's studio. The loose collection of all manner of sheets of paper serves as a kind of preliminary study, functioning as a kind of chance operation that underpins his compositional considerations. He then transposes the reduced color and formal vocabulary from the sheets - such as lines, circles, splashes, and color fields - onto the grounding, whereby the positioning of the compositional elements permanently changes during the painting process and rotates on the pictorial surface and/or across several pictorial surfaces. Here and there he starts removing it, scratching it off, or overpainting it, plastering over it with a palette knife, until the elements have reached their final position. The traces of the prior compositions attest not only to their own existence, but also to the immensely process-based method Manuel M. Romero applies. Even if the images may seem at first sight to be the product of some coarse approach, he in fact brings great sensitivity to bear in creating them. They thus entail an element that changes the perception of the color layers in the course of the creative process. This element enables us to see how the various surfaces refract light differently, reflects the painterly process, and underscores the exceptionally poetic painterly stance Manuel M. Romero takes.
Manuel M. Romero, born 1993 in Sevilla, Spain, graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Sevilla in 2017.
